Poetry

By Martha Leonard
(Group member since 1995)

" What are the blessings?"
Comes, choked from my lips
to delve the intolerable
for life's grueling tips.

PAIN'S unique lessons
in a myriad of forms
with no two exact yet,
each of us mourns.

The loss of our treasure
be it private or known
suffering humbles and,
in change, we are grown.
Into new selves
forged through the fire
affliction transforms
the soul transcends higher.

LIFE is God's gift
we cherish what remains
we bond with one another
we will never be the same.

II
Listening, quietly you will hear
without a word spoken to the ear
Sounds of pain in different keys
scattered notes in disharmony
Each stricken soul without a choice responds to loss with distinct voice You may hear rage or detect fear, masked revenge or sorrow's tear

There are chords frozen numb then gradual scales blending as one In deepest silence LOVE is revealed old wounds tended true songs healed and made new.
